They are big enough to curl up in but due to the sides being open, they don't take up as much visual space. We are really happy with the quality as well. Be aware that the black is black--it is a dark brown. I've attached a picture of the back of the chair that has black fabric so you can see the contrast. It took my husband about an hour to put one together and he needed a second set of hands for certain parts. I wish that the cushions were reversible because we have cats that have already scratched one of them, but I knew they weren't when we bought them so no stars off for that.
